TRADITIONAL KARATE

Wado ryu

1939
Wado ryu (和道流 «school of Harmonious Way») is one of four greatest Japanese karate-do styles. The main feature of Wado ryu style is the combat idea that is quite close to jujutsu principles. During interaction with the opponent, the fighter tries to minimize the strength consumption and amplitude of movements for defense while not sacrificing its effectiveness. Wado ryu prefers more sparing blocks that avert and stretch rather than aggressive blocks witch is characteristic for more aggressive styles (Shotokan, Shito-ryu).
