AIKIDO

Iwama-ryu

Iwama-ryu (岩間流) — is the one of the oldest styles of Aikido created by the founder of Aikido who was a close disciple of Morihei Ueshiba. In addition to various jo-kata, in Iwama-ryu much time is given to training with bokken - a wooden sword (aykiken). The technique with weapons is developed in Iwama-ryu as an integral part of Aikido and composed of three interweaving old disciplines: ken (sword), jo (stick) and taijutsu (unarmed technique). Subsequently, it became a feature that distinguished Iwama-ryu from other styles of Aikido.
